Subject: My Favorite Music

Over the years I have listened to a lot of music, lost track of a lot of tracks and found new ones to enjoy. To give you some insight into what kind of music I like best, and maybe give you some new tracks to listen to, I have started to make a list of my all-time favorite songs. Since this is a lot of work, I'll be adding on to it over time, but here are a few tracks to get you started. I started with HipHop/R&B tracks first, with lots more to come. Hope you like it.

Hip-Hop/R&B
Wu Tang Clan - Gravel Pit is one of my favorite tracks. Even though I can't explain why, I just love this track.
DMX - Ruff Ryders' Anthem was an instant hit for me after watching Chris Rock's movie Down to Earth. The only downside to this song is that I have to watch myself not screaming out the N-word along with the rest of the lyrics, since I'm a pale white boy...
DMX - (Ain't) No Sunshine, another track that I loved after watching yet another movie featuring a DMX track. No Sunshine was the soundtrack for Exit Wounds, a nice action movie in which DMX plays one of the main characters.
Kanye West - Jesus Walks is an amazing track. Somehow I find music thru movies. I first heard this track on Dave Chapelle's Block Party movie and have been a fan ever since. It was also featured in the movie Jarhead and Mims stole a sample in his song "This Is Why I'm Hot".
John Legend - Stereo is one of his less noticed tracks, but it's so pure and full of emotion that I just can't resist it.
Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot. Great track, awesome beat, Kanye West sample from Jesus Walks, what else is there to say?
DMX - Where The Hood At? Another great DMX track that just makes you scream the lyrics out at full blast.
Seal - Kiss From A Rose is a song that can move me to tears, one of the most beautiful songs ever. This song was the soundtrack for a Batman movie if I remember correctly.
Big Pun Ft. Fat Joe - Twinz has it all, "Brother from another mother", "...it's just 187 on an undercover cop" and Snoop Dogg helping out left and right. You just can't miss this old school track.
Fat Joe ft. R. Kelly - We Thuggin is one of my favorite Fat Joe tracks; the co-op with R. Kelly is golden.
Alabama 3 - Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One Mix) is the Theme Song for the Sopranos, the best gangster series ever and the best Theme Song ever.
Coolio - Gansta's Paradise was the soundtrack for the movie Dangerous Minds and is a real classic, you have to love it.
Xzibit - Weapons of Mass Destruction (Album) is the best rap album I've ever heard. It's rare to find albums without a single track you don't like, this is one of those rare gems, pure gold, start to finish.
Notorious B.I.G. Ft. Diddy, Nelly & Jagged Edge - Nasty Girl is one of the latest Notorious B.I.G. tribute songs, taking some of his older hits and mixing it up a bit. The result is a great song. While die-hard fans may not like it, I do. The other BIG B.I.G. tribute song I'll Be Missing You made it into the classics, maybe this one will also.
Ludacris Ft. Mystikal - Move Bitch is a great track for relieving stress in a traffic jam, just roll down your windows and turn up the volume!
Puff Daddy & Faith Evans (Featuring 112) - I'll Be Missing You was released after Notorious B.I.G. was killed. It's not your run of the mill song; this one actually touched a lot of hearts. The other good thing about this track is the video, nothing better then seeing Sean Combs go down with a bike (even if it's just a stand in).
Nelly, P. Diddy & Murphy Lee - Shake Ya Tailfeather was the soundtrack for the Bad Boys II movie and just an overall cool track.
Fugees - Killing Me Softly is probably the best known Fugees track. The Fugees main vocalist is Lauren Hill, a hip-hop legend and great singer.
Rihanna Ft. Jay-Z - Umbrella is a more recent track, but good enough to keep playing over the next few years.
DMX - Party Up... Ya'll Gonna Make Me Lose Ma Mind, Up In Here, Up In Here!
Reggae
The Toyes - Smoke Two Joints is an old-skool Reggae Track which could just as well have been done by the king (Bob Marley) himself. I first heard this track on a holiday, a friend of mine brought a CD with various Reggae tracks and this was one of my favorites. Sublime reworked this song into a Rock track, which is like the band name: Sublime.
Inner Circle - Sweat (A-la-la-la-la-long) is a nice and laid back track. I have special memories to this track. Inner Circle was booked to play on a festival of which I was in the crew. They canceled last minute (the day before the festival) because they blew up over the last few weeks. We booked them while they were relatively unknown and didn't get paid all that much, so they probably got a better offer. This song got played a lot, and people got mad every time they heard it, but hey, it's still a good song, so no hard feelings.
Rock
Sublime - Smoke Two Joints is based on the Reggae track by The Toyes. Sublime reworked this song into a Rock track, which is like the band name: Sublime.
Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People is a rework of a classic song, but done very well by Marilyn Manson. Ever since I saw one of his live shows on Fields of Rock a few years back (Metallica was playing there aswel), I became a fan.
Rammstein - Sehnsucht is superb, just like all other Rammstein albums. Tracklist: 1. Sehnsucht, 2. Engel, 3. Tier, 4. Bestrafe Mich, 5. Du Hast, 6. Buck Dich, 7. Spiel Mit Mir, 8. Klavier, 9. Alter Mann, 10. Eifersucht, 11. Kuss Mich (Fellfrosch) I can highly recommend 'Engel' (which is my dad's favorite aswel), 'Du Hast' and 'Buck Dich', while there isn't a track on here that I don't love, those three stand out. Before I forget, I can highly recommend the DVD's of their live shows, no one puts on a show like Rammstein.
Rammstein - Reise, Reise is superb, just like all other Rammstein albums. Tracklist: 1. Reise, Reise, 2. Mein Teil, 3. Dalai Lama, 4. Keine Lust, 5. Los, 6. Amerika, 7. Moskau, 8. Morgenstern, 9. Stein Um Stein, 10. Ohne Dich, 11. Amour Best Tracks: 'Reise, Reise', 'Mein Teil', 'Keine Lust' and 'Amerika'. I can highly recommend the DVD's of their live shows, no one puts on a show like Rammstein.
Rammstein - Mutter is superb, just like all other Rammstein albums. Tracklist: 1. Mein Herz brennt, 2. Links 234, 3. Sonne, 4. Ich will, 5. Feuer frei!, 6. Mutter, 7. Spieluhr, 8. Zwitter, 9. Rein raus, 10. Adios, 11. Nebel. Best Tracks: 'Links 234', 'Sonne', 'Sonne', 'Ich will', 'Feuer frei!', 'Mutter', 'Zwitter'. I can highly recommend the DVD's of their live shows, no one puts on a show like Rammstein.
Rammstein - Herzeleid is superb, just like all other Rammstein albums. One extra thing I have to say about this CD is that the track 'Rammstein' alone is worth this entire CD. The song is a protest against all the people who criticize Rammstein for the wrong reasons, played acoustically and nothing like their other songs. Tracklist: 1. Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen , 2. Der Meister , 3. Weisses Fleisch , 4. Asche Zu Asche , 5. Seemann , 6. Du Riechst So Gut , 7. Das Alte Leid , 8. Heirate Mich , 9. Herzeleid , 10. Laichzeit , 11. Rammstein Best Tracks: 'Weisses Fleisch', 'Asche Zu Asche', 'Du Riechst So Gut', 'Heirate Mich', 'Rammstein'. I can highly recommend the DVD's of their live shows, no one puts on a show like Rammstein.
Rammstein - Live Aus Berlin is superb, just like all other Rammstein albums. One of the great things about this band shows on this CD their live performances are as good and maybe even better then their album recordings! Track List: 1. Spiel Mit Mir, 2. Bestrafe Mich, 3. Weisses Fleisch, 4. Sehnsucht, 5. Asche Zu Asche, 6. Wilder Wein, 7. Heirate Mich, 8. Du Riechst So Gut, 9. Du Hast, 10. Bueck Dich, 11. Engel, 12. Rammstein, 13. Laichzeit, 14. Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen?, 15. Seemann. I can highly recommend the DVD's of their live shows, no one puts on a show like Rammstein.
Heavy Metal
Slipknot - Wait and Bleed is probably the only heavy metal track I really love, so for now, the one and only entry in this genre. With Wait and Bleed, Slipknot did something that hasn't been done before (as far as I know); they mixed in good singing with fast releases of raw metal growling, which pans out great, you can sing along, and can even follow the lyrics, when the heavier parts come, you get an energy boost and just want to start head-banging.
Dance/Trance/House
Chemical Brothers - Do It Again is one of the manny, manny genious songs by the Chemical Brothers. They always have cool video's and a different sound.
Wamdue Project - King Of My Castle was a huge hit in the 90's and I still like to listen to it once in a while.
Captain Jack - Captain Jack was the debut single for Captain Jack. Here in The Netherlands this track was a big hit. A music video on demand station was sometimes playing it for hours on end.
Vengaboys - We're Going To Ibiza was big in Europe in the 90's. They had a few more hits like "We Like To Party" and "Boom Boom Boom Boom" that are worth still listening to.
Hardcore
Chosen Few - Name Of The DJ is a Hardcore classic, every fan must have it :)
MC Rage - Fuck The Macarena was a funny anti-macarena song in the 90's. It is sort of a Hardcore Remix with some explicit lyrics, but verry funny and deserves a piece in music history.
Party Animals - Hava Naquila is a Hardcore classic, every fan must have it :)
Party Animals - Have You Ever Been Mellow is a Hardcore classic, every fan must have it :)
Other
Moby - Porcelain is hard to categorise, but great none the less. Most of you might not know it by name, but you'll recognise it once you hear it.
Michael Andrews & Gary Jules - Mad World is a beautiful track, plain and simple. This also happends to be the soundtrack for a great movie called Donnie Darko (IMDB Top #250).
Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek is a track I found when I downloaded a custom DVD of a Dutch TV Show called 'Ranking the Stars'. A fan of the show created a nice custom DVD which allowed me watch some of the episodes I had missed. On the DVD was a nice custom menu, with a great trance track playing in the background. After watching the DVD, the menu came up again and I found myself just listening to the track, wanting to hear it over and over again. After using Google to track the title name via it's lyrics, I found out that the track was by Imogen Heap. After a quick search in the newsgroups, I found out that the track that was on the DVD was actually a Remix by DJ Tiësto. Since I was curious about the original track aswel, I decided to download them both. To my surprise, the vocals only version of Imogen Heap is so mesmerising, I actually prefer it over the Tiësto Remix.
